All of Us: The Equality and Justice Film Series

a collaboration between the Indian Lake Theater (ILT) and the Indian Lake Equality and Justice Committee (ILEJC).

Director Paul Miller

The Indian Lake Theater and the Town of Indian Lake Equality & Justice Committee proudly presented Indian Lake's first Juneteenth celebration with a screening of Timbuctoo, a film by Paul Miller. The film was also the first film in the All of Us: Equality and Justice Film Series.

Juneteenth is a new state and federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in America.  Though slavery ended with the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, word of it did not reach Texas until June 19, 1865.  Juneteenth has been celebrated in many parts of the US since then, it only recently became a state and national holiday.

On Monday, June 20, 2022 Indian Lake Theater was honored to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday with a showing of the film SEARCH FOR TIMBUCTOO. SEARCHING FOR TIMBUCTOO tells the little-known story of a Black settlement, established in the wilds of upstate New York North Elba, Essex County), that brought together a group of ardent abolitionists willing to risk their fortunes, their families, and their futures to destroy slavery. Little did they know that by coming they would help tear the nation apart. After the screening the film's director, Paul Miller spoke to the audience and answered questions. .

The ‘Timbuctoo’ marker is part of the Pomeroy Foundation’s New York State Historic Marker Grant Program intended to help educate the public about local history, encourage pride of place, and promote historic tourism, according to a press release.

Flag Day Celebration Concert

In conjunction with the Indian Lake Central School district, the theater hosted the a Flag Day Celebration. Kids worked with the Dan Berggman Band to create a song about our community. They sang this and other songs at the theater while enjoying our delicious popcorn!

The Monarch Report

The Indian Lake Theater is working to bring The Monarch Report to the stage in Indian Lake. Upper Jay Art Center created this innovative new work of theatre/puppetry. The Monarch Report is a multimedia performance exploring the delicate relationship between humans and insects. The story follows two humans in isolation, who raise and release hundreds of monarch butterflies in captivity. The more invested they become in their hobby (and documenting/sharing it), the more they begin to reflect on their own role in the ecosystem around them. This fun and visually compelling performance employs various puppetry techniques, quirky humor, and live-feed video to make-large the tiny lives of caterpillars and their metamorphosis into butterflies.

Performed by Colin Wilson, Theresa Bui, Andrew Murdock, Gabrielle Schutz and Bob Andrews
Video Operation by Camellia Bayle-Spence

The Theater is also working in conjunction with the Indian Lake Central School and the project is financially supported by the Hamilton County Soil and Water District.
